« A new world ? » by Yann Sciberras - Channel TF1 News Broadcast

Current events, history, and societal aspects are all issues that inspire artists. Especially those, like Yann Sciberras, who keep up with the times, and who wish to bring a different outlook, their vision, through art, on the world that surrounds them and in which they live.

Therefore, inevitably, the coronavirus crisis inspired Yann Sciberras, but not in his usual manner, which gave rise to “New World?”. It is around this artwork and Yann’s approach that TF1 produced a documentary, filmed in his workshop.

In the documentary, we obviously come across his style, Yann’s trademark, featuring his color palette and signs bearing symbols intended by the artist : Words.

But this time, he tackled this artwork by putting aside his own emotions, in order to be an impartial witness, factual, conveying a series of events and consequences that we were all affected by, universally …and which we all endured.

From the closing of borders, symbolized by crosses, the unrelenting healthcare givers’, like crowned heroes to be applauded, to the new words that now make up our vocabulary, or even the controversies triggered by lies, truths or conspiracy theories.  And, this word all too often spoken by governments and their heads of state : War.

For this reason, and in order to forge his own opinion and incite us to do the same, through his artwork, he chose to steer clear of his feelings and emotions. He wanted it to be a near-journalistic narration, with its share of chaos, in order to clarify and level out this experience, as to be able to remember, to never forget, and to lead us to question ourselves.
