Introducing Fin DAC

Introduction

Fin DAC is a contemporary artist celebrated for his distinctive blend of urban art and traditional portraiture. With a signature style characterized by intricate stencils, vibrant colors, and enigmatic female subjects, he is renowned for his ability to infuse street art with elements of classical beauty and mystery, captivating audiences and inviting them into a world where urban grit meets elegance.

Biography

With a hearty laugh, Fin DAC, also known as Finbarr Notte, humorously describes himself as a "world-famous international street artist." Born in Cork, Ireland, his passion for art blossomed at a young age, setting the foundation for a remarkable artistic journey. However, Fin DAC's path was far from ordinary. Initially constrained by financial limitations and familial expectations, he found himself following his older brother's footsteps, delving into studies of mathematics and technical drawing at a secondary school in Ireland. Despite his penchant for drawing in his leisure time, he never formally pursued art courses. Later, Fin DAC secured a position as a mechanical engineer in the London Underground, distancing himself from his artistic aspirations. Juggling engineering with a side hustle as a DJ, he continued to nurture an underlying desire for artistic expression. It wasn't until his thirties, while working as a web developer for a digital advertising firm, that Fin DAC decided to confront the fears and doubts that had hindered him. Venturing into London’s vibrant street art scene, he finally embarked on the artistic journey he had longed for, demonstrating that life's detours can lead to unexpected and fulfilling destinations.

Though his career in street art is relatively brief, it stands out for large-scale portraits characterized by an innovative technique merging stencils and freehand painting. Over time, Fin DAC has crafted a distinctive style he dubs "urban aesthetics," infused with a deep passion for portraying feminine beauty, enriched by unique ornaments and artistic intricacies.

Fin DAC : His Style & Impeccable Technique

Fin DAC masters the art of the spray can like no one else. Whether perched on cranes several meters high to cover building facades or working in the studio, his attention to detail is unparalleled. His technique, incorporating stencils and bursts of vibrant colors, captivates and mesmerizes, creating a distinctive mark in the realm of street art. His signature pieces feature portrayals of Eurasian women, frequently clad in contemporary or traditional garments, personifying his renowned "Geishas." Referring to all his subjects as "muses," he refrains from direct personal interaction, opting instead to derive images from portraits that serve as the foundation for his work. Fin DAC consistently accentuates his models by acknowledging their names or Instagram, thereby elevating his creations to the status of contemporary icons.

Artistic Exploration: Emancipation and Feminine Sensuality

Fin DAC, an autodidact and non-conventional artist, delves into profound themes in his art, focusing on the emancipation and empowerment of women. His artworks strive to dismantle racial and sexual stereotypes associated with women, all the while reshaping the male perspective on the oriental narrative. Going beyond mere aesthetics, he endeavors to uncover the nuanced aspects of feminine sensuality and sensitivity.

Diverse Artistic Collaborations

Throughout his artistic career, Fin DAC has engaged in diverse collaborations, partnering with prestigious brands such as Armani, G-Star, Red Bull, and more recently, Bang & Olufsen. His notable achievements include paintings for iconic venues like the Royal Albert Hall and contributing to the landscape of the 2012 London Olympics. His artistic footprint extends globally, with exhibitions featured in galleries and museums across Europe and the United States, and his distinctive artworks gracing walls in various corners of the world.

Fin DAC & Art Traffik

Laurent Jeanniard, Art Traffiker #1, first crossed paths with Fin at the Berlin Art Fair in 2015, where Fin showcased his art. It was during this event that Fin was also busy creating a mural on the Berlin Wall, providing Laurent with a chance to meet him. This encounter marked the start of a strong friendship, and since then, they've remained close. In 2020, Fin DAC graciously accepted our invitation to join the "Points of View" street art festival in the Basque Country.
